Participants will work with Minneapolis-based artists from In the Heart of the Beast Puppet & Mask Theatre to create a story that reflects our community’s interaction with water. Together, they will combine artistry and ecology to explore water issues, such as where it comes from, how we use it, water quality issues, water recreation activities, and how we can be more mindful in our interactions with water.
The story will be created through collaborative sharing of ideas, histories and experiences of water in our region. Then participants will create lively masks and large-scale puppets and be taught the art of movement and performance for puppet and mask theatre. Music, singing, dancing, and stilt-walking will all be integrated into this lively presentation.
Water, Water Everywhere, is open to all ages and no prior art-making or theatre experience is required. There is a range of participation levels for this program. Participants can choose morning, afternoon, or evening workshops (or any combination of the three!) You can drop in on Saturday, August 14. To be a part of the final community performances, participants must attend the rehearsals listed below.
Puppetry’s power lies in
the act of transformation —
of bringing something inanimate to life.
This act in itself speaks to our lives,
which rise and fall and rise again.
As we share this act of building and performing,
we find that theater brings people together.
It builds community.

The “Summer Love” Tour kicks off a 25-city run that will take the popular radio host and his pals from coast to coast, Texas to Minnesota.
This concert tour on the everlasting theme of romantic love will be jam-packed with tender duets and ballads, poetry (Poe, Shakespeare, Anonymous), and stories of passion and marriage - not to mention Mr. Keillor’s intermission walk through the audience for the sing-along of “Unchained Melody” and “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You.” An entertaining date night for all ages!
While these are not APHC broadcast shows, they will include many favorite A Prairie Home Companion elements - Guy Noir, Dusty and Lefty, and the News from Lake Wobegon. Nickel Creek’s Sara Watkins will be on hand, as will sound effects man Fred Newman and the Guy’s All-Star Shoe Band.
